An 8.9-magnitude earthquake hit north-east Japan in the afternoon of March
11, 2011, triggering a tsunami that has caused extensive damage.
The epicenter was 231 miles away from the capital, Tokyo, at a depth of 20

that caused tremendous damage to Tokyo and surrounding areas, toppling
buildings as well as causing power outage. Fires have also been triggered
near Tokyo, and 90 injuries from various impacts have been reported so far.
The huge quake has triggered huge tsunamis inching towards the coastlines of
various countries around the Pacific Ocean including Russia, Indonesia, the
Philippines, Hawaii, and the island of Chinese Taipei.
Alarms for the tsunami have been sent out along the north-east coast of the
island of Chinese Taipei.
