Earthquake Struck off Mexico BorderBack to list
A 6.6‐magnitude earthquake struck in the western Pacific off Papua New Guinea
early Sunday. The tremor was centered 70 kilometers deep under the ocean floor
and about 33 kilometers south‐southeast of Taron in eastern Papua New Guinea.
No immediate damage was reported; nor was there any tsunami warnings prompted.
The international Oceanographic Commission suggested, however, that the
authorities in the affected region should still consider the possibility of tsunamis and
take appropriate action, given the intensity of the earthquake.
