Landslide
A devastative landslide struck Gaopo Village in Yunan Province of China on Friday
morning local time (Jan. 11). As rescue kept on, at least 46 people had been reported
dead as of Saturday. And according to China’s national media, 16 houses were buried
under the crumbling earth. Meanwhile, the situation was made even more critical by
the freezing temperature. Thousands of rescuers had been deployed and striving to
search for survivors since the occurrence.
The region also went through several disastrous occurrences in 2012: fatal landslide
that caused 18 lives in a county not far from Gaopo in October; and in September,
series of tremors over magnitude of 5 hit the region.
