The Philippines
Flood
From the end of 2010 to the beginning of 2011, a torrential rain lasting for more than two weeks struck the central and southern part of Philippines. One thirds out of the 80 provinces in the country came under impacts of the compound disasters, including destruction of highways, bridges, farmlands and houses. Up to mid-January, 42 residents have fallen victim to the floods and mudslide triggered by the devastating disaster. 400 million people have been evacuated, and the military has been transporting supplies to the disaster areas while recovery of the stricken regions proceeded.
