Hurricane Irene, on a morning landfall during the weekend of August 27, stomped
across the state and claimed at least six lives. N.C. State has been put under a critical
situation: lives put at risks, properties being destroyed, the inundation triggered
cutting off Hatteras Island from routes leading to the mainland, leaving about 2,500
residents stranded, which were expecting an emergency ferry sent for rescue. So far,
the hurricane has urged shut-down of at least 10 major roads and several airports in
Atlantic Beach.
