A 7.7‐magnitude earthquake struck western Canada and roused a tsunami warning
for Hawaii. The sirens went off as thousands of revelers were in the streets of
Honolulu for the annual Hallowbaloo festival. While waves were predicted to reach 3
to 6 feet, the largest one in Kahului on the island of Maui was 2.5 feet above ambient
sea level. The evacuation orders for coastal residents along with the tsunami warning
were canceled in the early morning in Hawaii.
