Powerful Typhoon Nanmadol Caused Deaths in the Philippines

Typhoon Nanmadol killed at least eight people in the Philippines, striking the
northern part of the country on August 28. The storm triggered compound hazards
such as floods, landslides, which were blamed for the death tolls. Moreover, there
were reports of bridges collapsed and major roads blocked. 2,500 villagers have been
evacuated from the eastern and southern regions. Other impacts included schools and
offices closed, flights canceled, and transportation disrupted.
The typhoon was packing gusts of 137 km/h and moving towards the north at 10 km/h.
Nanmadol was said to make landfall in eastern Taiwan on Monday the 29th.
