Severe flooding hit the southern Queensland, Australia

Hundreds of people have evacuated their homes after severe flooding in parts of southern Queensland, Australia. Police reported one person died after a vehicle was dragged by flood waters. This follows an earlier flood-related fatality in Central Queensland last week.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) said it was involved in more than 30 swift-water rescues and responded to more than 400 calls for help in the last 24 hours. Around 1,000 people evacuated their homes in Inglewood on 01 December 2021 due to the overflowing MacIntyre Brook.

According to Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), the Macintyre Brook at Inglewood Bridge peaked at 11.20 metres around 02:30 (local) 01 December. Levels since dropped to 9.60 metres and were falling further.

Meanwhile Queensland Police say they are investigating after a man died when his vehicle became submerged in flood waters at Yalangur, near Toowoomba earlier on 01 December. Police ay they “received a report of two utility vehicles that were both swept into a creek from Kelvinhaugh Yalangur Road. The driver and sole occupant of one of the vehicles self extracted and is safe and well.”

This is the second flood-related fatality in the state in a week after one person died after driving a vehicle into floodwaters in Hibernia, central Queensland on 25 November.

Flooding has affected southern Queensland from late 25 November. Several people were rescued in areas including South Burnett and Barney View. The Logan River caused flooding in areas of Rathdowney and Beaudesert.
