Businesses and schools closed in northeast Chinese Taipei on July 10 as residents prepared for the approaching Typhoon Chan-hom. The powerful typhoon brought heavy rain and strong winds to the island and left 6 injured.
Typhoon Chan-hom earlier hit Japan's Okinawa island chain as it pushed towards Taiwan and onto China, leaving at least 23 people injured. Thousands were evacuated from eastern China in preparation for the storm which left 5 dead in the Philippines earlier in the week after heavy rains.
