Tropical storm Oswald struck on January 29, causing the waters of Burnett River to
rise and flood 2,000 houses in Queensland State. As the storm moved south to the
state of New South Wales, in which Grafton City was at risk attributed to the rising
waters of Clarence River but later relieved as the water level did not exceed the city’s
levee. So far four people have died of the floods, and tens of thousands were left
displaced or stranded as the storm headed towards the sea south of Sydney.
Rescue workers have been endeavoring to help the residents in the eastern states.
Access to the affected areas appears positive as the water level shows sign of
receding.
