Strong Earthquake Hit Chile

A 6.7‐magnitude earthquake struck coastal Chile late Monday, the 16th of April. The quake occurred around the port city of Valparaiso; and the temblor could be felt as far as the capital city, Santiago, 69 miles from the epicenter. The quake triggered mudslides and several minor damages, and no other major impacts were reported so far. While no tsunami alert was issued, the country’s authorities have implemented preventive evacuation.

An 8.8‐magnitude earthquake hit the same part of the country back in 2010, causing a death toll of hundreds.
