Record-breaking downpour within a century in South Korea has caused 35 casualties
since the outbreak on Wednesday the 27th; meanwhile, it is expected to continue
through Thursday. Some areas around Seoul, up to Thursday morning, were hit at a
rate of two inches per hour. According to the Central Disaster Relief Agency, most of
the death toll comes from landslides triggered by the immense rain.
The Korea Meteorological Agency issued an alert of heavy rainfall for cities in the
midland region. Five neighborhoods in the suburban area of Seoul went under
evacuation orders.
