Troops Deployed in Chinese Taipei for Tropical Storm Nanmadol

Downgraded from a typhoon, Tropical Storm Nanmadol is forecasted to make landfall
in the eastern coast today, August 29. The first deployment of troops has been placed
in the central part of the island as the storm hauled north-west with gusts of 137 km/h.
Torrential rain is expected; and at least 1,000 residents in the mountainous areas
around Kaohsiung City have been evacuated. Schools and offices in many areas are
closed as the official agencies conducts emergency response for the storm.
