The strong typhoon “Songda” has triggered floods in the coastal areas of Northeast
Japan in late May, 2011. According to Japan Meteorological Agency, the torrential
rain may cause compound disasters such as major waves, landslides, and debris flow,
which residents in affected areas must be alert to.
Several residential districts in Ishinomagi City of Miyagi County have suffered the
floods. Other influences included power failure and damages in shelters and
prefabricated houses; meanwhile, the Fukushima power plants raised the highest level
of alert and prepared for possible devastation.
