Wildfire Explodes to 40,000 Acres in California. Tens of thousands of acres have been burned by two wildfires in northern California, forcing evacuations, destroying structures and injuring four firefighters. A third, even larger fire in central California has also prompted mandatory evacuations.

A rapidly spreading wildfire destroyed hundreds of homes and other buildings as it roared through the northern California village of Middletown and several nearby communities, chasing thousands of residents from their homes on Sunday, September 13.

At least 1,000 firefighters were trying to battle the wildfire. "This has been a very destructive fire. It has destroyed countless homes and other buildings, evacuations are widespread in the area." Daniel Berlant, a spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said in a video news briefing.
