Firefighters in Texas struggled against a fast-moving wildfire that has scorched
around 25,000 acres and destroyed nearly 500 homes. According to the Texas Forest
Service, several fires are currently burning across the state, urging a red-flag warning
into effect for much of east, south, and central Texas. The officials may seek more
evacuations while hundreds of residents, not knowing what happened to their homes,
have already been put in shelters. Texas is currently battling the worst fire season in
the state history, a record 3.5 acres have been burned since the beginning of the
season in November as hot weather, coupled with historic drought, created adequate
conditions for rapid fire growth.
