The theme of the 12th APEC Senior Disaster Management Officials Forum (SDMOF) is “Advancing the Multi Hazard Early Warning Systems for Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Risk Management”. This is in line with the overall APEC 2018 theme of “Harnessing Inclusive Opportunities, Embracing the Digital Future”, and one of the APEC 2016 priorities, “Promoting Sustainable and Inclusive Growth”.

Attendance will include delegates from APEC Economies, the private sector, non-government organizations and academe. The 12th Forum will take place on the context of a “new normal” for disaster risk management, where a combination of natural and human factors are leading to disasters which are more complex, more frequent, and increasingly difficult to anticipate and manage. With this new normal, timely hazard monitoring and warning, the efficient use of digital technologies, and warnings which result in timely and effective action, have become increasingly important.
