The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has said that Marikina City was the hardest hit by floods caused by the southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical storm “Karding” (Yagi) in Metro Manila.

OCD Spokesman Edgar Posadas said that based on initial reports, an estimated 3,783 families or 7,676 individuals are currently housed in 19 evacuation centers because of flooding and the overflowing of the Marikina river.

Posadas said 619 families or 3,805 individuals were affected by flooding in Quezon City and are temporarily sheltered in nine evacuation centers..

In Manila, 44 families or 144 individuals were evacuated and housed in one evacuation center; in San Mateo, Rizal – 2,039 families or 9,031 persons affected and housed in 23 evacuation centers, in Rodriguez, Rizal – 2,340 families or 7,761 families housed in nine evacuation centers, in Cainta, Rizal – 289 families or 1,133 persons in four evacuation centers, in Taytay, Rizal – 27 families, and in Antipolo – four families or 20 individuals.

Posadas said local government units are currently tending to the needs of the affected families.

The OCD official said that they received reports that there are three roads rendered impassable in Region 1, particularly in Pangasinan and Ilocos Sur.

He said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) immediately dispatched a team to the affected roads.

Posadas said there were unconfirmed reports that some roads in Meycauayan and Marilao, Bulacan were also rendered impassable due to flooding.
