Torrential Rain Caused Major Casualties in China

The Chinese official has confirmed the latest record of 175 deaths and 85 missing
caused by the torrential occurred in early June. Four days of torrential rain in a row
has cast tremendous effects on numerous regions including 13 provinces around the
downstream areas of Changjiang River. The major disaster has resulted in 6.57
million refugees and put more than 16 million people to shelter, with an economic
loss adding up to over 3.5 billion RMB.
According to the officials, five characters can be found in this disaster: rapidity of
drought-flood alteration, high intensity of rainfall, critical toll caused, considerable
effects resulted from compound disasters, and highly challenging in disaster relief.
