Earlier this week, Australian authorities urged that all residents of St. George, the
flood‐threatened town, to stay away as the Balonne River swelled up. The town is
located in the eastern state of Queensland, which had been overwhelmed by heavy
rains over the past week. While some parts of the region are still struggling to
recover from the inundation a year ago, parts of the neighboring state of New South
Wales are affected by the flooding this year. The inundation has caused dozens of
homes overflowed and hundreds of people to take shelter in the evacuation center
while many other taken to the state capital, Brisbane. The army has been assisting
the search, evacuation, and supply efforts.
